On March 17th, Ryan had his corneal transplant. We think this is amazing that in 45 minutes, Dr. Bowman and his staff, could take out his scarred cornea and replace it with a clear one from a donor. We were at the facility for a lot longer and stayed the night in a hotel to go back early the next morning for a follow up, so the girls sent him sweet texts...

All the black line surrounded the cornea, are stitches. There are 16. At first, he was extremely uncomfortable and described it as constantly having sand in his eye and he was not able to rub it, of course. This got better within days. When we went back for his 2 week follow up, the doctor said that he was ahead of schedule on healing and he could go back to normal routine. We thought this would take 2 months. We are so thankful for this wonderful outcome. In a few months, he will be able to be fitted for a new contact and get even better vision. Just with the new cornea, he's able to see better than he has in over 10 years. Amazing!
Also, we got to send a letter to the donor family thanking them for the cornea and letting them know the joy that it brings to someone else.
