Watch Me Grow: 19th Anniversary Getaway in Maine!

And we're off! Left Dallas to land in Atlanta where we spent a couple of hours in the airport...

Then landed in Portland, Maine...

I was so happy to land and get our luggage and then we got over to the car rental booth and realized that I booked our car for Portland, OH instead of Maine. I was so upset with myself! We were told that they were out of cars but we could try one of the other booths. We tried two others with no luck and then we were saved with a Ford Ranger from the last car rental booth. We'll take it!!

First Stop...a lobster roll at Highroller's in Portland before heading to the Inn in Freeport

Portland City Hall was all lit up!

Kendall Tavern Inn...Mark and Nancy were the best hosts! We loved it here...

Most everything shuts down about 6pm but the huge LL Bean store stays open 24 hours so we went walking...

Day 2...

Lovely Breakfast at Kendall Tavern!

Headed out for the day! My main goal was to get inside a lighthouse!

We did lots of driving and admired all the pretty spots! With no billboards along the roads, it makes everything so much prettier!

Old Post Offices are so cute, to me!

God's beauty was everywhere! We drove to Pemaquid Point in Bristol to climb up in the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse...the only one that I could find open this time of year to climb! I was very excited...

We got in!! It wasn't a very tall one and we couldn't walk on the outside once we got up but still a very neat experience!

The foliage had just started to change but it would be amazing a couple of weeks from then.

Back across the river to Sprague's in Wiscasset for lunch overlooking Sheepscot River. It was very windy but very nice if you were in the sun with it being 55 degrees.

This was Ryan's favorite lobster roll of the trip!! He had 7:)

Red's...what spurred the trip to Maine. We knew that we wanted to take an anniversary trip but hadn't picked a place. One night Ryan was watching "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" and decided we should go to Red's in Wiscasset, Maine for a lobster roll! I don't eat seafood but I'm happy to go anywhere so I was said, sure!! We didn't end up eating at Red's because we were told by two different people in Portland that Sprague's across the street was better and the Red's line was very, very long!! So, he doesn't know what the Red's lobster roll tastes like but Sprague's was his #1 of the trip, so I'd say it worked out!

Day 3...

Good Morning from Kendall Tavern!

After breakfast, we packed our things to check in to Nicholson Inn later in the day. We wanted to try them both!

We went to visit the Desert of Maine! It was pretty cool with 40 acres of sand dunes right in the middle of a forest!

Desert of Maine had a home and barn from the early 1800's in renovation. Right up Ryan's alley! There were so many cool things to see along the walking trail!

One of the first Ford cars...we were just admiring all the gadgets such as the manual windshield wipers and such...all created in the name of necessity!

There's a campsit attached and these A frame cabins were super cute!

The Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster Co. was a cute place to be!

After lunch, we headed to Wolfe's Neck Wood State Park to do a little trail walking...

I've never really been in an area where there's full woods and then pop out to the ocean. There were beautiful views all around...

This makes me laugh:)

We sent this to the girls to see if they wanted one and it was a double yes;)

We drove over to the Swinging Bridge over Androscoggin River.

There wasn't much parking and no spots were available so Ryan had me get out to see if it was worth finding a spot over...Ha! He should've known that I was going to make him get out and see it with me. Of course, it was worth it!

We got checked into Nicholson Inn! John and Loretta were just precious and took great care of us!

Walking down the street to dinner and we spotted this cool church building!

Tuscan Brick Oven Bistro turned out to be a fave!!

He does pose occassionally!

Ryan can have the seafood...I'll have the meatballs, bread and chocolate:)

Day 4...

We woke up to a wonderful breakfast at Nicholson Inn...

We drove to Portland to the Maine State Pier to take a ride on the Mailboat Run in Casco Bay!

The Mailboat Run delivers mail, freight, groceries and passengers to the area islands...Little Diamond, Great Diamond, Long Cliff and Chebeague Island. It was so cool seeing the islands and seeing the groceries get delivered. The people would meet at the pier and pick up their goods and drive away in a golf cart or vehicle. It's definitley a different way of living!

We passed by Fort Gorges built in 1858...incredible!

These houses were so beautiful on the edges of the islands!

I bet when these trees change colors, this will be even more beautiful!

Made it back to Portland...

We had lunch at Gilbert's Chowder House...it was very busy but we got lucky and got a seat pretty quick!

Ryan had lobster stew and a lobster roll! He kept talking about that stew...he loved it!

Love my time with this guy:)

We took a ride on this old fire engine for a tour of Portland!!

Our driver was fun!!

Our guide was awesome!

We learned a lot! The Fort Gorges from the land along with more cannons!

From the top of this spot, you can see all of Portland.

We saw so many cute homes!

We decided to drive over to Cape Elizabeth in Fort Williams Park and see the Portland Head Light! We almost didn't because we knew that it wouldn't be open to go inside but I'm so glad we went. It's just so perfect!
