Greece & Italy Trip - Day 3

March 9th
So, it's Day 3 in real time but really just feels like Day 1 or 2 since the only sleep we've had has been on a plane or airport floor which for me, totaled about 3 or 4 hours.  But we're all showered and ready for our 15 hour day of activities!!
After breakfast, we got out day started with Kleio giving us a bus tour around Athens City Center...

We go out for a quick stop at the Panathenaic Stadium. It was home of the first modern Olympic games in 1896 and remains the only stadium in the world built entirely out of marble.
My Girls!

So thankful for this trip and to be here with these ladies:)

Back on the bus for more sightseeing...

We took a guided walking tour of the Acropolis and the Parthenon...it was very crowded and our tour guide was a bit hard to understand but this was still an amazing sight to see.  I mean, it just seems impossible for these structures to have been built in that time period.  This will seem to be the running view of most everything that I saw on this trip!

Looking out over Athens, Greece from the edge of the Acropolis area.

Wow! Another incredible theater at the Acropolis!

The detail on this building was fantastic!

Went to a local jewelry shop to see how some jewelry is made.  The girls picked out rings and we got one for Fyn too...

Now, for a little bit of free time and lunch in Athens Old Town...

Yes, marble streets! So pretty!

We picked out this place for lunch because we wanted to see on the rooftop but they told us it was full.  That's okay, the food was delicious!!
Mine and Rylie's Pizza!

Rylie's been so excited for the gelato!!

Back to the bus to go to the hotel for a bit before Greek Evening...

We had a lesson on how the oil is harvested from the olives...

Night Sky over Athens...

Love my girls!

Ready for our Greek Evening!
I don't think any of us were quite prepared for the fun we would have!
We tried olive oils and bread as we walked in. We found a seat at the tables. We prepared our plates at the buffet and as we were eating, the local Greek family came out to dance and then soon they had us join in for dancing, plate smashing, games and more dancing! Opa!

Oh I love a show!

Dancing!!

This family was very talented and it seems, in this culture, that the men are the stars of the show!

Breaking Plates!

A game to clean up!

Micah won!

More Dancing! We had such a fun time and may have been a little out of breath:)

This is all Mabank people who were invited up, not knowing what was about to happen, but they were excellent sports, got dressed up and put on a great dancing show for us!

Greece & Italy Trip - Days 1&2

March 7th and 8th...Day 1 and 2 consisted of 30 hours of travel from Mabank to Dallas, from Dallas to London, from London to Athens, Greece! It should've been more like 18.  We tried to sleep on the flights but some of us aren't as lucky as others:) Katie was able to sleep pretty much the entire 9 hour flight from Dallas to London...lucky girl!
We got our final itinerary a few days before we left...

Packing 11 days worth of clothing and essentials in one carry on and one backpack wasn't real easy for us. We're not known for being the lightest packers...
Ready!!

Two groups had left that morning and now it's our group's turn...

Mabank School Bus to DFW Airport!

We learned, while in line to check in, that we'd be on a "double decker" air bus. What?! I had to google this! Yes, we were on this double decker air bus to London.  We thought we'd be more impressed with the staircase and all but if you weren't looking for it, you wouldn't have even known it was there.

We found out about now that our flight would be delayed from Dallas to London and then it turned out that we were about 20 minutes late for our connecting flight so that made for a long time of waiting!!

Flight one...9 hours long:)

Our first full meal on a plane;)
I didn't eat much of it, but it was still neat!

Landed in London...now to wait on the connecting flight...

We enjoyed Giraffe World Kitchen at the Heathrow Airport.  We don't even know if it's breakfast, lunch or dinner right now:)

We landed in Athens, Greece, about 2am on the 9th!

Airport signs in Greek!

So glad we made it!!

Out to the bus, with our EF director, Kleio!
Made it to our Hotel!

Hotel London in Athens, Greece

Rooming with Keeley...it was now about 4am and we'd have to be up at 6:30 for breakfast and the 15 hour day, so we decided just to get ready!!

I brought a mini-iron and hoped it would work well and it did...with our trusty little plug adapters, of course!

Got to keep all my times straight while we're here...Ryan and Fyn will be in Colorado for part of this trip!
